Brela
Brela’s amazing town beach
Tucked away under Biokovo Mountain, Brela is a sparkling coastal resort town between Makarska and Split where pine forests meet the Adriatic to offer a sublime combination of sun, sea and nature. Brela’s beaches are what brings people here—despite their tiny size, some are on the top ten list of many magazines, even Forbes! The actual town consists of the older part, Gornja Brela, near an old road in the hill and the newer coastal part, Donja Brela. There are enough nooks and crannies along its coast to give a sense of privacy, but the town can get pretty busy. And the narrow two lane twister that winds it way from Split to Makarska often brings traffic to a standstill in season. In addition to enjoying Brela’s beaches, there’s fish picnics and great hiking from nearby Omis, the ferry to Brac from Makarska and very good, air-conditioned bus service up or down the coast. Lots of very good apartments, B and B’s plus a quartet of hotels that shows Brela really knows how to make vacationers happy.
