Primosten
Right on your way up the coast to Sibenik is Primosten, sitting pretty on its own island connected to the mainland by a slender road. Another one of those jaw-dropping villages that offers way more than just a “stop, we have to take a photo!” Who would think that tiny Primosten could be such a great place for wine lovers, gastronomes, sunbathers (nude or otherwise) and nature lovers?!. The old town core is a tangle of typical narrow streets winding their way up the small, hilly peninsula. There are good beaches in town as well as a popular nudist beach on the island of Smokvica. Yachting and diving? Take your pick. And terrific restaurants (more than 50, which is amazing considering Primosten’s tiny size). If you love spiny lobster, this is the place. The surrounding area, with more than 30 villages and hamlets are perfect places to rent an apartment or a room if you have a car. The food in these villages is spectacular–home-made prosciutto, cheese in olive oil, lamb, roasted meat, even veggie food like chickpeas, olive oil, lentils, and other traditional dishes. Primosten is also the home of Croatia’s famous red wine, Babic. There’s even a Primosten Wine Trail so you can taste your way through the villages. Lots of cultural events and entertainment programs during summer months, such as the Primosten fiesta (the first week in August) as well as religious feasts where practically everyone leaves their house to join the procession around the town.
