National Parks in Croatia
The spectacular waterfalls at Plitvice Lakes
Croatia has eight national parks. Each is remarkably different. Some are islands, like lush Brijuni, richly-forested Mjlet and the moonscaped Kornati islands park. Others are tucked into the hills and mountains with spectacular waterfalls and lakes like Plitvice, the most visited park in the country. All are national treasures and well-staffed with knowledgeable guides. So get your map and plan to visit a bunch of your favorites—none are that remote, so you can hang out on the beach vacation, take off to a national park and explore some ancient remains without having to drive all over creation. Plitvice is very busy in season, so think about spending a night in a nearby BNB or a hotel so you can get an early start in the morning to beat the day trippers. Krka is also very busy, so go early. From wild islands and mountain crags to Plitvice’s waterfalls, enjoy Croatia’s gorgeous national parks!
