Rovinj
Rovinj is the kind of magical town that makes you want to drop everything and move here. And with 2.400 hours of sunshine annually, its nautical allure and so many cultural and artistic attractions it’s no wonder everyone is so enchanted. This is an old town with a wonderful waterfront promenade full of pleasure boats, excursion vessels and working fishing boats. A walk par excellence. You can literally circumnavigate the whole peninsula strolling along Rovinj’s beautiful narrow cobblestone streets and stepped alleys. What a rich patina– lovely Mediterranean houses with brightly painted shutters, balconies overflowing with flowers, the sea, the stunning harbor, and crowning it all, on the top of the hill, is the Venetian-Baroqu St. Euphemia’s Church, with a nearby 60 meter tall belltower that can be seen for miles, Rovinj’s signature street is Grisia which becomes a wonderful open-air art gallery in the summer. And there’s a lot of excellent sightseeing just outside the city, too.. Dvigrad is a Medieval town on the road to Kanfanar, only 23 km from Rovinj. Limska draga, a cove that is more than 25 km long, has terrific seafood restaurants and is just 15 km by land and only four km by sea from the harbor. Spectacular Bembo Palace and a beautiful neo-baroque parish church are just 10 minutes away in Bale. And all along the way is the ever-beautiful Istrian countryside with vineyards and olive groves and here and there kaćuni, tiny Istrian houses with their signature conical roofs. Or for an Italian fix, take the ferry to Venice, only three hours and about $100 away! From Zagreb, you can fly to Pula in 45 minutes and then it’s less than an hour’s or bus to Rovinj.
