Kornati
Kornati is a surreal dreamscape, a natural archipelago of more than 140 uninhabited islands so stunning in their random beauty that according to the legend, after the creation of the world, there were few stones still left in the God’s hand, so he threw them over his shoulder into the sea and Kornati was born. Today Kornati National Park occupies an area of about 220 km2 (54,000 acres). There are more than 140 islands, islets and reefs that sprawl over 238 km of coastline, creating the most indented group of islands in the Mediterranean. The land portion of Kornati National Park covers less than 1/4 of its total area, but the sheer variety its landscapes and magnificent cliffs that face the open sea have made it a magnet for naturalists, divers and photographers. The unique Kornati sea bed attracts divers from all over Europe enjoy unforgettable adventures. Only licensed agents are allowed to take people to the Kornati Islands. Overnight stays are available at hotels and other places but you must get advance approval, which the agency handles. There are trips from Zadar, Sibenik and other places on the coast. The islands are really worth exploring, there are very good restaurants and of course that fabulous diving. Just be sure the agency you work with is specifically licensed and approved to bring guests to the Kornati islands.
