Private day trips from Split for friends of SightseeingCroatia, created by Robert and Natasha

1. Discover the sights and taste of the Palace!
East Gate

The dramatic Silver Gate of Diocletian’s Palace

A unique, private Palace Walking Tour with a special, fresh “catch of the day” chef-prepared Dalmatian lunch! We start our tour in Split‘s bustling fish market to learn about the different Adriatic fish and we will help you pick the catch of the day! Then we will send it off to one of the city’s most authentic restaurants where it will be prepared to order when you return from our tour, along with your choice of grilled fresh vegetables (a Croatian treat!) or any way you like, plus wine and a garden fresh salad! The focus of this relaxed 2 hour walking tour is to discover how a grand walled summer residence of an Emperor became the city of Split and why it is such a “living city” more than 1,700 years later. It’s a tour that takes you behind closed doors that most tourists never see—like the original foundation of the North Wall, a centuries old convent hidden behind a wall that is now the city’s only Orthodox church; ancient Roman graffiti; maybe meet a local artist or the owner of the city’s best bakery; enjoy a cup of tea or coffee at an authentic local café; discover the best ice cream shop! Then it’s off to the restaurant to enjoy your specially prepared meal. $150. per couple, includes professionally guided private tour just for you, fresh fish lunch with vegetables, salad and a glass of wine, all admissions–we can also offer vegetarian or meat cuisine if fish is not your fancy!

Imagine standing inside of a 1000 year-old olive tree!

A day on Solta island, discovering an ancient olive groves, making honey, swimming, with a home cooked lunch and fabulous wine!  Solta, the closest island to Split, is just a 45 minute ferry from Split and a world away! With just 1500 year round residents, Solta has remained one of the most unspoiled islands in the Adriatic. A favorite of sailors, who enjoy its 22 bays, Solta is also the island of olives, honey and wine. You’ll be met by the island’s third generation bee keeper, Goran Tvrdic who will take you to his family estate overlooking the ocean. After learning about the island’s world famous rosemary honey (and even get a chance to make your own) you’ll be treated to a fabulous home-cooked lunch by Natasha Tvrdic, complete with the island’s legendary Dobricic wine! Time to taste and purchase different honey products all made right here by Goran and his family. After lunch it’s off to the groves of one of Croatia’s most award olive growers, Olynthia Natura, to learn about the oldest cultivated tree in the world. Some of the trees you will see are more than 1,000 years old! Then you’ll visit the island’s newest mill for a tour and an olive tasting with time to pick up some great olive oil at the mill shop. Time enough to swim before the ferry or catamaran back to Split. A marvelous day in nature spent with local Croatians who are preserving a way of life that has gone on here for over 1,500 years! $160. per couple; includes ferry tickets, transfers, lunch with wine home cooked by Natasha Tvrdic. A Trogir Walking Tour with an authentic peka lunch and wine! Trogir, another UNESCO site, is just an hour by water taxi or bus from Split. Smaller, Greek, Medieval, Renaissance, Trogir is an astonishing architectural treasure that probably would attract millions if it was in Italy. It’s a fascinating bookend to Roman Split. Our walking tour takes about an hour and a half and then we go for a rare culinary treat—“peka”! In Dalmatia peka is an art. An ancient way of slow cooking meat, chicken and vegetables inside an iron dome covered under and OVER it with wood coals and let to roast for 4 or 5 hours. The flavor is fabulous and with home made peka bread, wine from the owner’s uncle’s vineyard, sitting in the courtyard of a 13thC house you’ll be in heaven.
